Pirates 7, Mets 5
Ted has said it right a number of times. They don’t call them the Amazins for nothing. I feel like a broken record, but this loss is probably the worst of the season for a number of reasons.
Yes, they’ve blown a four-run lead six times now…guess how many times they’ve come back from a four-run deficit? 0! That’s right…a six game swing right there. But besides that, this Pirates team is so atrocious on so many levels, there’s really no excuse to give up more than a couple of runs to them. Absolutely pathetic.
The Mets had 11 hits and three walks and the Pirates had three errors. So I believe that means the Mets had 17 baserunners…and they could only muster five runs. Four of those runs came on two swings of the bat too. I mean the offense deserves some of the blame but let’s get real here.
We need a new word in the dictionary to describe how awful the Mets bullpen has been lately. They’re singlehandedly costing this team a spot in the playoffs. I’ve never seen anything quite like this ever in my entire life. I was actually reading a story about how the closer position is completely overrated. Something like no matter who you have in the ninth inning, there’s about a 95% chance you’ll win the game when leading after 8. Well the Mets percentage is barely above 80%…that’s how bad it’s gotten.
There isn’t much more to say that hasn’t been said. The bullpen is almost solely responsible for today’s loss and I don’t know what the solution is. I’m just in a state of shock right now.

yes, that was as bad as it gets, it is becoming very difficult to watch, you just know what is about to happen.
