Rincon to join bullpen
by Michael - posted Wednesday, August 27th, 2008
Thanks to Geoff in Mexico City, he sent me an e-mail where Ricardo Rincon said in the local paper he’d be joining the Mets on September 1st for the rest of the season.
For those of you who can translate Spanish, here’s the link for the story. He says he’s going to spend a few days in AAA and then he’ll be with the Mets on September 1st.
It makes sense because Rincon was with the team during Spring Training and they retained his rights once he went to go play in Mexico this year. Rincon has had decent numbers in the past.
As mostly a lefty specialist in 2005, Rincon appeared in 67 games for the A’s and had a 4.34 ERA.
I can’t see the move hurting the Mets since Feliciano and Schoeneweis have been terrible lately. Why not bring in a guy who’s had success in the past. He can’t be any worse than what they’ve got already.
Update: I spoke to someone within the Mets organization who said there’s a 99% chance Rincon will be with the team when the rosters expand on September 1st. He said he’s been throwing really well down in Mexico and it gives the team another option against lefty hitters…which by the way the Phillies have plenty of.
